Programme of Cardiac Care Technology
The programme of B.Sc. in Cardiac Care Technology, B.Sc. Perfusion technology and B.Sc. in Renal Dialysis Technology were started in 2019 under the Department of Paramedical Sciences. The vision and mission of the programmes are to create world-class Medical Technology professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the social, economic, and health development of the country. Towards this mission, our goals are to persistently update and enrich our academic programme, expand our network with other institutions, establish national and international collaborations and explore all avenues for the extension.
The course is planned in such a way that students not only get theoretical knowledge through classroom teaching but also focus on practical training. Different hospital visits and events are organized by the department to impart the in-depth knowledge of the students.
Regular summer and winter training/ internship programs are conducted in various hospitals and health care centers to provide specialized professional training so that the students can seek jobs as professional Technologists in professional institutions, government, and voluntary organizations.
The department also provides regular updated syllabus and curriculum which is planned in an ordered manner to ensure overall preparation of Radio-Imaging students in form of lectures and clinical training also with newly adopted teaching methodologies like SIS (Student Interactive Session), Seminars, IT (Integrated Teaching), PPT (PowerPoint Presentations Teaching), RP (Role Play), FGD (Focus Group Discussion)and PD (Panel Discussion). The Faculty of Allied Health Sciences is research-oriented. Therefore, research projects are an important tool, which help the students in developing research skills.
The department has fully equipped with an ECG room, TMT room, Echocardiography room, Dialysis room & critical care units in hospital for graduates
A Cardiology department is a facility of a hospital where various Invasive & Non-Invasive methods are used for the diagnosis, prevention & treatment of cardiovascular patients & taking care of a cardiovascular diseased patients.
B.Sc. Cardiac Care Technology students work in the cardiology department in hospitals. They operate an ECG machine to identify the proper functioning of the heart. Through Electrocardiography it is easy to diagnose future cardiovascular disease. The cardiac technician hasa multidisciplinary role in the cardiology department for both the Non-Invasive & Invasive departments.
In the Non-Invasive department,they operate an Electrocardiography machine, Treadmill test machine, Holter monitoring machine, Echocardiography machine, and newer cardiac monitoring devices.
In the Invasive department of cardiology cardiac technologists assist the cardiologist in the Catheterization lab in various interventional procedures like angiography, angioplasty, transluminal valvoplasty, insertion of septal closure devices, and coiling of Major aortopulmonary collateral arteries. Basically, a Cardiac technician works behind the scenes as highly-skilled healthcare who performs his/her role and helps the physician in every aspect.
A catheterization lab is a facility in the hospital where various interventional procedures are done for the treatment of cardiovascular disease.
A Cardiothoracic & vascular surgery department is a facility of a hospital where cardiac surgery of patients is done & after an operation of a heart patient went to ICU for further recovery. B.Sc. Perfusion Technology students learned to operate the Heart-Lung machine during cardiac operation. A Heart-Lung Machine temporarily functions as a heart & lung because during surgery heart and lung of the patient are ceased for a short time till the procedure is complete.
A perfusionist has a multidisciplinary role in the cardiac operating room, cardiac ICU, pulmonary department, nephrology department & Liver transplantation department. During the surgery perfusionist by operating the heart-lung machine provides blood circulation & gas exchange in the patients.
A perfusionist also operatesan Intra-aortic Balloon Pump machine(IABP), monitoring of Ventricular assisted devices(VADs) & operates Extracorporeal membrane oxygenation(ECMO).
Nephrology Department is a facility of a hospital wheretaking care of urinary system being done. B.Sc. Renal Dialysis students learned to operate the hemodialysis machineduring treatment of chronic kidney disease. They also learned about different dialysis program like peritoneal dialysis, Hemoperfusion, Ultrafiltration, plasmapheresis & MARS.
Dialysis Technologist has a multidisciplinary role in the nephrology department like operating above mentioned dialysis program.
With the steady population growth and with advancements in technology, the quality of medical care has vastly improved across the world, creating an urgent need for people who can handle highly sophisticated medical technology. This clearly indicates that the job market for medicaltechnologists is expected to remain strong.
