Programme of Optometry

Optometry is a paramedical field that deals with eyes, their structures, vision, visual system, and vision information processing in human beings. Optometrists are trained to check any defect in vision, its treatment like prescribing and dispensing spectacles and contact lenses to improve vision.

This is a dynamic and challenging career, which allows one to help people, achieve personal growth, community respect, job flexibility, and financial success and offers virtually unlimited opportunities. Being a regulated profession, an optometrist’s scope of practice may differ depending on the location.

The program is envisaged to develop multipurpose ophthalmic manpower at the paramedical level. The training will enable a student to become a competent person in providing services as an Optician, Optometrist, Refractionist, and Ophthalmic Assistant to the community in urban, semi-urban, and rural settings in private, semi-Governmental, and Governmental sectors.

Optometry is a 4-year undergraduate program with a one-year internship, which was established under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences in 2013 at SGT University.

We have also started the Master of Optometry course in 2017. The vision and mission of the program are to deliver quality and efficient eye care to the general public.
