Department of Operation Theatre Technology

An operating theater is a facility within a hospital where surgical operations are carried out in a sterile environment. An operation theatre (OT) technologist forms an intrinsic part of any hospital. She/He is a member of a multidisciplinary team in operation theaters who plays an active role in the smooth functioning of the operation theatre. OT technologist assists anesthesiologist and surgical team during preoperative period and provides support to patients in PACU. OT technologist plays an important role in advance preparation of equipment that is necessary for various anesthesia / surgical procedures. OT technologist also looks after all the works including and management of the OT which includes managing the patients in & out of operation theatre, care and maintenance of all the OT equipment as well as management of the staff.

The Department of Operation Theater Technology was established under the Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, SGT University in the year 2014. The vision and mission of the department are to create world-class Operation Theatre Technology professionals who can contribute meaningfully to the social, economic, and health development of the country. Towards this mission, our goals are to persistently update and enrich our academic programme, expand our network with other institutions, establish national and international collaborations and explore all avenues for the extension.

The Department offers a graduate program in Operation Theatre Technology. The postgraduate course in Operation Theatre Technology was introduced in the academic session 2017-2018.

The course is planned in such a way that students not only get theoretical knowledge through classroom teaching but also focus on practical training. Different industrial visits and events are organized by the department to impart the in-depth knowledge of the students.

Regular summer and winter training/ internship programs are conducted in various hospitals and health care centres to provide specialized professional training so that the students can seek jobs as OT Technologists in professional institutions, government, and voluntary organizations.

The department has fully equipped Operation Theatre for graduate and postgraduate students.
