PREAMBLE:-
An operation theatre (OT) technologist forms an intrinsic part of any hospital. He / she is a member of a multidisciplinary team in operation theatres who plays an active role in smooth functioning of operation theatre. He / she assists anaestheliologist and surgical team during perioperative period and provides support to patients in PACU. He / she plays an important role in advance preparation of equipments that are necessary for various anaesthesia / surgical procedures. He/she also looks after all the work and management of the OT which includes managing the patients in & out of operation theatre, care and maintenance of all the OT equipments as well as management of the staff.
As the surgical branch has various subspecialties including General Surgery, Eye, ENT, OBG, Cardiac, Ortho , genito-urinary, neuro and Reconstructive surgeries, the OT technologist needs to know about these various subspecialties. Moreover, a variety of electrical and electronic equipments are in use in modern operation theatres for monitoring anesthesia & surgical procedures. The success of the procedures and safety of patients depend largely on the reliability, smooth and trouble free performance of these equipments and ability of skilled manpower to operate the same. Thus, there is increased need for qualified and trained OT Technologists not only in India, but also in other developing countries. This course is aimed at satisfying this need.
At present, in our country very few universities are generating health professionals specialized in OT technology. This OT technology Program introduced by Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (Deemed University) promises to generate OT professionals having extensive and elaborate knowledge in the fields of OT technology, both in theory and practical.
OBJECTIVES:
Provide comprehensive clinical experience in the field of OT Technology to provide optimum quality services in a wide variety of settings including emergencies.
To create a category of health personnel that is well oriented, clinically competent, aware of safety issues & quality assurance, care and handling of modern electro medical equipments and proper documentation / record keeping.
Duration of Study:
Diploma (DOTT)- Two years programme
Eligibility:
10+2 from Board of School Education Haryana or an examination recognized as equivalent by SGT University with at least 45 % (40% in case of SC/ST candidates of Haryana only) marks in Physics, Chemistry and Biology/Mathematics taken together with English as one of the subject.

Core Department:
Department of Anaesthesia. Apart from this , rotational training in trauma, ICU, and various subspecialities of surgery and basic departments like Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Micro-biology and community medicine.
Teaching strategies:-
Teaching will be done through didactic lectures, Power Point Presentations, Teacher and students seminars; problem based learning, case presentations, tutorials and exposure to outdoor and indoor patients .
The time allotted for theory(main+ subsidiary) / practical and Training, industrial visits and seminars/tutorials etc .is as under:

Professional /Clinical Training:
- a) Students will have to observe the protocols on different modalities.
- b) Students assume primary responsibility for preparing the patients for different procedures.
- c) Students will have to assist anaesthesia and surgery under the supervision of senior staff.
- d) Students are expected to complete at least three months training with corporate hospitals or health clinics.
Summer / winter vacation Training / Optional posting:
The students will be given assignments/project for their summer and winter vacations for which they will be required to undergo training at the hospital of their choice .The students will be asked to present their project/work report on coming back after their vacations. This will be reflected in their evaluation for internal assessments. Due support to the students will be provided for this training by the faculty.
