
A guest lecture on “Scope of Optometry and Dispensing Spectacles” was organized by the Department of Optometry, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences on 27th January 2017. Mr Ankit Sakhuja, Product Manager-Varilux Lenses for North India region at Essilor India Pvt. Ltd delivered the talk. The session was chaired by Dr V K Govila, Dean Allied Health Sciences. Welcome address was delivered was Dr P. Shingal HOD, Department of Ophthalmology. Mr. Ankit elaborated extensively different types of spectacle lenses available in the Indian market and indications of their prescription. The guest speaker stressed very well that other than doing refraction and dispensing spectacles there is a huge scope for optometrists in corporate industry. However, the industry is interested only in academically excellent students who are equally good in communication skills. Dr Ashwani Kumar Ghai, Assistant Professor Ophthalmology and In-charge Optometry proposed the vote of thanks. It was an interactive session where the students enthusiastically put a lot of questions which were readily answered by the learned speaker. The students feedback was positive and they felt immensely benefitted by the talk.
